What is Breaking Our Hearts?

Hey there, Friend. Is your heart breaking? Or maybe it's just a little dented? There is a lot of pain in the world, isn't there? There are a lot of things to grieve.

Grief comes in so many different ways. And none of them are insignificant.

Here are some of the things I'm grieving right now. The death of my father in 2024. My mother's dementia. Putting our childhood home on the market. Broken relationships. A child living on the other side of the globe. The state of our country and the horrible disregard this

administrations has for human beings and our planet. And when I take in the globe and all the pain happening elsewhere, it's a lot!

What about you? What are you grieving right now?

We recognize grief when it comes from the death of someone we love, whether that be a family member, a friend, or a pet.

Grief also comes from broken or damaged relationships.

The loss of a job. Having to move (even if it's your choice). The loss of respect or esteem. Unrealized dreams. Loss of health or mobility. Unmet expectations. Loneliness. Sometimes we just take a look at our life and realize it's nothing that we hoped it would be. And many other things.

Grief is an ever-present part of our lives in some form or another. A lot of the time it's quiet and small and we may not even recognize it. Other times it comes in big and loud and there's no way to avoid looking it right in the face.

What does your grief look like right now? If you were to draw a picture of your grief as a character, what would that look like? Go ahead, even if it's just stick figures. Draw it out. Is it small, quiet? Maybe you didn't even realize it was there until you thought about it. Or is it taking up all the space, coloring everything in your life? Maybe somewhere in between or a combination?

Give yourself permission to feel your grief, even if it's something you think is too insignificant. There is no insignificant grief.

All my love.

Kay

Beautiful words, Kay. I especially love the reiteration of grief as significant in all its forms. All too often we tend toward dismissing our pain because “someone has it worse,” but it’s important that we remember our experiences are valid, regardless of their scope or nature.
