My Philosophy
Most people live with dysregulated nervous systems. This means our brain spends more time in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn response than is necessary for the situation.
The autonomic nervous system is that part of our nervous system that controls our heart rate, breathing, and other functions that we don't directly control. It reacts to stressful events to help our bodies survive those events. Sometimes, when we've experienced severe, or prolonged trauma the nervous system stays activated even when there is no current threat.
This can show up in our bodies in many ways: anxiety, stomach and digestion issues, headaches, muscle pain and more. These things should always be checked out by a medical doctor because any of these symptoms could be the result of any number of things. But when a medical reason can't be found for the symptoms, sometimes addressing the nervous system can help.
There are a lot of people doing this kind of work these days. I am able to help by listening, teaching somatic practices, and coaching you to a new way of addressing stressors.
One of the stressors we live with is our own reaction to ourselves. Many of us live with shame, low self esteem, or the general disapproval we feel from constant messages that we aren't enough. Learning to befriend ourselves can go a long way toward helping our nervous system heal.
