For Teachers

As a teacher you work so hard, care so much, and give so much of yourself. There are rewards, but there are also a lot of challenges.

You also (and all people who live in America) experience grief and anxiety associated with schools and the violence that has occurred in them over the years. Whether we are educators, students, parents, grandparents, or neighbors we can't escape it.

We may try to ignore it or deny it. And there's nothing wrong with that, to some extent. It's not healthy to be constantly thinking about the risks and challenges facing our schools. But even if we avoid thinking about it, our nervous systems are very aware of the dangers.

Our minds can be distracted, but our bodies carry it all the time. This can look like insomnia, being on high alert all the time, feeling anxious, nervous habits, being very irritable, fatigue, brain fog, being easily distracted, numbing or zoning out, muscle tension, bad digestion, heart palpitations, and more. Not that all of those things are always due to dysregulation. Many things can lead to these symptoms and sometimes they should be checked by a doctor, but unprocessed trauma, grief, emotions, and stress can definitely cause all of these things and more.

As a teacher, being right there in the schools every day, your body carries the danger, trauma, and anxiety more than those of us on the outside. This in addition to the many other stressors that come with teaching.

I'm here to help. I offer workshops that will educate you about the nervous system and how it works and will give you somatic tools and techniques to help you begin to regulate your nervous system and manage stress that is held in your body. You will have hands-on practice with the techniques and will receive an email with a list of the techniques for you to refer to in the future.

Somatic practices help you feel what is happening in your body and the techniques communicate with the primal part of your nervous system in ways that words and thoughts cannot. This can help your body learn how to regulate -- which means it will be calm and relaxed when there is no actual danger, rather than being on high alert all the time.

I'm always happy to meet with you for an individual session, but you can also sign up for a one-hour workshop with other educators. These are usually online, though I do offer them in person occasionally. Go to my Book Online Page to register.

Get my monthly newsletter for somatic tips, journal prompts, upcoming events, and more! It's more like a newsnote. Short, concise, but packed with good things. Just a little bright spot in the midst of inbox overwhelm. I will not sell your information to anyone. I do not automatically sign anyone up. The only way to receive it is to sign up here.
